Sapieha Palace, Vilnius

Sapieha Palace is in the heart of Antakalnis district of Vilnius, Lithuania.

It is the only surviving palace formerly belonging to the Sapieha family.

The palace was was built in Baroque style in 1691-1697.

The palace was designed by Giovanni who was an Italian Baroque sculptor and architect, and had decorated the palace with frescos.



In 1809 the palace was acquired by the Russian government and restructured into a military hospital in 1843.


throughout the 19th century the palace interior was destroyed and not until 1927-1928 the palace was restored and housed University's ophthalmology institute until World War II. fell into disrepair shortly after.


the palace has been undergoing restoration and to bring it close back to its original style.
